Around the Castle

Gentle Walks Around the Estate

The estate itself is crisscrossed with scenic trails, ideal for relaxed walks beneath the trees or short hikes of 5–10 km through woods, valleys, and pastures. One of the most beautiful routes is the section of the Brigands’ Path that crosses our property from east to west — once used by outlaws centuries ago, it now leads walkers through peaceful forests and rolling hills toward Lake Bolsena.

Guided or GPS-led Treks

Scenic Treks with Guide or GPS

For more adventurous walkers, we also offer guided or GPS-led treks along shepherds’ trails that connect the regions of Lazio, Tuscany, and Umbria. These routes take you across a stunning high plateau (450–600 meters) between two major landmarks: Mount Amiata (1,870m), the ancient volcano marking the north, and the round basin of Lake Bolsena, defining the south.

You can choose your direction:

  • North toward Tuscany and the dramatic Orsini fortress in Sorano, passing through the striking gorge of the River Lente.

  • South to Lake Bolsena, skirting the charming village of Gradoli and its surrounding vineyards along the edge of the crater.

  • West to Lake Mezzano, located within the Selva del Lamone Natural Park — another former caldera now covered in wild forest.

Whether you’re walking for an hour or a whole day, the views — ancient villages, castles, forests, and volcanic landscapes — will stay with you long after the trail ends.
